Forestry Predictive Model

Forestry companies in Alberta often use predictive models showing the archaeological potential of their Annual Operating Plan (AOP) to speed up the process of government clearance. Altamira Consulting Ltd. has recently presented the details of our predictive methodology at the Computer Applications and Quantitative Applications in Archaeology conference in Williamsburg, Virginia. This poster describes the process we follow when determining archaeological potential in BC forestry.

Altamira Consulting Ltd. is on occasion contracted to complete a predictive model for the entire Forest Management Area (FMA) of a forestry company. Once completed, this type of model allows for even faster archaeological analysis and government clearance. Altamira Consulting Ltd. has completed such a predictive model for Weyerhaeuser Co. Ltd., which previously had difficulty finding predictive models with meaningful results. A variety of methods were combined to optimize the results for the area and enabled Weyerhaeuser to have a more accurate view of the archaeological requirements throughout its FMA and to modify their AOP accordingly.
